emergency number 112.

What to do in the event of illness?

What you should do in the event of illness depends on whether you have public or private health insurance.

TK public health insurance

You will get an insurance card from Techniker Krankenkasse which you present every time you go to the doctor. If you have shown your insurance card, the physician will settle the bill directly with the insurance provider. Your insurance card is the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) which is not only accepted in Germany but in most other European countries as well.

EDUCARE24 private insurance

Please consider the following three rules of conduct during the period you are insured with the private health insurance EDUCARE24:

  • If you are ill, please consult a general practitioner or a dentist before seeing a specialist or going to hospital.
  • Please provide the physician with our Ärzte-Info-Ticket (medical info card) prior to the treatment. The card contains information about the type of billing as well as important details regarding your insurance coverage. After the treatment, the doctor can send the bill directly to DR-WALTER. We will transfer the amount directly to the doctor. If the costs of the treatment are within the limits of the insurance cover of EDUCARE24, you do not have to worry about the payment of your treatment expenses.
  • Please tell your doctor that some treatments require approval and that you need a medical costs projection for these treatments. Here you can find information about the cases for which a medical costs projection is needed.

Benefits based on prior agreement or approval

In some cases, a medical costs projection is a necessary precondition for a 100% reimbursement of the reimbursable treatment expenses. You must provide us with a medical costs projection prior to the planned treatment in the following cases:

Outpatient treatment:

  • diagnostic radiology methods that exceed the scope of conventional X-ray diagnostics (such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and scintigraphy);
  • allergy tests.

Dental treatment:

  • treatment of more than two teeth during the insurance period;
  • periodontal treatment;
  • treatments with an estimated cost range of more than €250.

Without our written approval of the medical costs projection, the reimbursement of the above named benefits is limited to 50% of the reimbursable costs. If you are not sure whether your treatment is covered, please contact us.

Free Travel Health Insurance

Free Travel Health Insurance offers you, among other things, cover for acute, unexpected illness or injury.

If you are ill, first consult a general practitioner or, in the case of toothache, a dentist before going to a specialist or hospital. If possible, please present the doctor with the Ärzte-Info-Ticket (medical info card) prior to any treatment. The card contains information about the type of billing as well as important details regarding your insurance coverage. Doctors can settle their bills directly with us. If the doctor sends the invoice to DR-WALTER, we will transfer the invoice amount directly to the doctor’s account.
